GILLETTE, WY—JUNE 25, 2022— It took a track record setting performance for Eyesa Special Hachet to defeat Kay Cross Conman by a neck in the $10,000 Mike Lipp Memorial Stakes (not black type) Saturday afternoon at Energy Downs 307 Racing.

Eyesa Special Hachet finished strong under jockey Luis Peralta to complete the 250 yards in :12.822 seconds, equaling a 115 speed index with a 10 mph tailwind. The previous Energy Downs track record of :13.011 was set on June 20, 2021, by Daenerys Targaryen.

Trainer Jesses Villegas saddled Eyesa Special Hachet to his seventh career win for owner-breeders Broken Bones Cattle Company. The multiple stakes winning son of Eyesa Special Slim earned $5,450 to push his earnings record to $48,284.

Coming off a second-place effort in the Gillette Open Maturity on June 19th, Eyesa Special Hachet is out of the Rolls Of Romance mare Streakin Ruby Red.

Kay Cross Conman put in a solid effort to earn a 113 speed index for his second-place effort today. Jess Matt trains the son of All American Futurity sire Volcom for owner Lana Matt. Wagonhammer Ranch bred the bay gelding in Wyoming from the Onanotherhigh mare Kay Cross Kylie. The stakes-placed 6-year-old has earned $18,613 in 27 starts. Shaunda Larsen was riding.

William C. Fox's homebred Pistol Grip finished half-a-length back to earn $1,000 for third. Trainer Tyler Gibbs named jockey Jarrell James to ride the 4-year-old son of Maknmoves from the Eyesastrawfly mare Eyes In Heaven. He has earned $23,422.

Completing the official order of finish were Vvr Workin Man, Seppies Little Bo and Sb Timetoshine and Vvr Sugar Sugar.
