Valiant Stevie B Gets Up In Horsemen’s Half-Derby At Century Mile Friday

EDMONTON, ALB—SEPTEMBER we, 2022—Valiant Stevie B broke alertly under jockey O.A. Hernandez, then edged clear to defeat Bearcat Bill by a head in the $13,316(US) (not blacktype) Horsemen’s Half-Derby on Friday at Century Mile.

The son of Steve B First Cash completed the 350-yard task in :18.111 seconds, equaling a 90-speed index into a 15-mph crosswind.  It was the second career win in 15 starts for the Utah-bard gelding. The $6,918(US) winner’s purse pushed his earnings total to $24,879.

Trainer Buckey Stockwell conditions the 3-year-old gelding for owner WT Ranches, Ltd. Two Feathers Series LLC bred Valiant Stevie B from the Valiant Hero mare Valiant Sister.

Bumped steadily at the start, Barry and Janice Sather’s homebred Bearcat Bill picked up $3,393(US) for second. Trainer Misael Moreno named jockey Armando Andrade to ride the son of leading Canadian sire First Timber from the Volcom mare Splashy Mamacita. Winner of the Alberta Bred Deby in his last start September 10, Bearcat Bill had banked $35,806 13 career starts.

Kevin Oberholtzer’s owned-and-trained Rocky League finished three-quarters off the leaders to earn $1,566(US) for third. Alexander Marti rode the multiple stakes0placed son of Ivory League from the Tres Seis mare Rocky Mountain Lady. Bred by Ralph Danard, Rocky League has earned $16,097.

She Wears The Pantz, I Getit, Smokin Ziva, Interes Fino and First Golden Rose completed the field.
