Cayenneoverthemoon (#6) defeating Eyesa Special Swirl (#2) to set the fastest qualifying time in the Silks & Spurs Maturity trials on Sunday at Energy Downs 307 Racing.

GILLETTE, WY—JUNE 4, 2023—Multiple stakes winner Cayenneoverthemoon defeated Eyesa Special Swirl by a neck Sunday to set the fastest qualifying time for the Silks & Spurs Maturity at Energy Downs 307 Racing.

The 10 fastest qualifiers, from two trial races conducted on Sunday, will return to the Gillette, Wyoming racetrack on Father's Day (June 18) to contest the 400 yard final.

Starting off a win in the Ron Moosman Memorial Stakes at Energy Downs May 20, Cayenneoverthemoon finished strong under jockey Shaunda Larsen to complete the task in :20.062 seconds, into a 15 mph, headwind to establish the fastest time. It was his second win in as many starts this year.

It was the seventh career win for the Jess Matt trainee who is owned by Walter I. Larson. The multiple stakes winner of nearly $80,000 was bred in Washington state by S Bar S.  Cayenneoverthemoon is by multiple stakes sire Brindis Por Cayenne from the Apollo (TB) mare Dashmetothemoon.

Eyesa Special Swirl, a stakes winning daughter of Eyesa Special Slim who finished a neck off Cayenneoverthemoon, held on to the second fastest time of :20.101 seconds.

Jesse Villegas trains the Wyoming homebred for owner-breeder Broken Bones Cattle Company. Out of the Sixs Charlie Brown mare Lil Charlotte Swirl, Eyesa Special Swirl has earned $58,134.

Cowboyhatbygucci was a neck winner over Diamond Dusting in the opening trial to get the fourth fastest clocking of :20.200 into a 15 mph headwind. Second in the Ron Moosman Memorial in his last start, Cowboyhatbygucci races for owner Lucero Dominguez and is trained by Calli VanTassell Dominguez.

Uriel Dominguez rode the stakes winning son of leading sire Apollitical Blood from the Dmnv Mountable mare Ms Fast First Prize. Winner of the Rising C Equine Futurity at 2, Cowboyhatbygucci has earned $73,588.
