Painted Turnpike Wows Crowd In Trial to G1 Speedhorse Lone Star Paint & Appaloosa Futurity

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX—OCTOBER 17, 2015—Painted Turnpike, owned-and-bred by Nolan D. Pevehouse and trained by Matt Whitekiller, wowed the crowd with his impressive performance Saturday night in the Speedhorse Lone Star Paint & Appaloosa Futurity trial race. Three trials were held to decide the field for the Grade 1 affair to be held here on Friday, October 30.

It was the fifth race when jockey Cody Smith aboard Painted Turnpike, son of leading Quarter Horse sire Pyc Paint Your Wagon out of High Class Turnpike by Royal Quick Flash, clocked the 400 yards in :19.926 seconds over a fast track. The margin was a length and a half in front of second fastest qualifier Psychedelic Scott.

Although Painted Turnpike bumped with a rival at the break, it never fazed him. He was clearly in front of everyone by the second jump and couldn't be caught.

There were three trial races on the card, the fourth, fifth and sixth.

Bull, owned by Buddy Albin won the first trial (race 4) in :20.218 seconds making him the third fastest qualifier. The stakes-placed son of champion Paint sire Cartel Success (QH) is conditioned by Jason Olmstead and was ridden by Jorge Torres. Also a homebred, Bull is from the Texas Hero mare Memories Of Texas.

Wagonette, a daughter of Pyc Paint Your Wagon owned by Bryan Hawk, won the final trial (Race 6) in :20.341 making the fourth fastest. Henry and Linda Bowlan bred the filly in Oklahoma from the Shawne Bug (QH) mare Shawne Chick. Dee Kenner conditions Wagonette with Ricky Ramirez riding.

Kenner also saddled the aforementioned Psychedelic Scott, the only horse to ever-beat fastest qualifier Painted Turnpike. Under jockey Jesus Salazar, the Judys Lineage gelding clocked the second fastest time of :20.163 when he finished second trial. He was one of two finalists for owner Paint Horse Queens. Wendy Ingersoll bred the gelding in Oklahoma from the Quarter Horse mare The Hippie Chick, by Chicks Beduino.
