CLAREMORE, OK—OCTOBER 25, 2019—Multiple stakes sire Valiant Hero got three qualifiers to the Oklahoma Horsemen's Association Mystery Derby at Will Rogers Downs, including the two fastest.
Valiant High, under jockey Agustin Silva, defeated Valliance, by half-a-length to get the top qualifying mark of :17.451 seconds, a 99-speed index over the sloppy (sealed) racing surface.
Trainer Charlton Hunt saddled the son of Valiant Hero to his fourth career win for owner Jerry Windham. Bred in Oklahoma by You And Me Partners, Valiant High was also a finalist in the Speedhorse Derby at Fair Meadows last summer. Out of the On A High mare Also A High, he has banked $ $40,560.
Longtime trainer Eddie D. Willis trains runner-up Valliance, a Valiant Hero gelding who held onto the second fastest clocking of :17.510, a 97 speed index .Owned by James Sills, Valliance is an Oklahoma-bred from the Feature Mr Jess mare This Lady Likes Cash.
Bred by Marshall Wier and ridden by Jimmy Brooks, Valliance has compiled a (10) 1-2-1 record and earned $24,841.
Willis also saddled 9th fastest qualifier Ss Wagon Painted Bay.
Valiant Hero's third qualifier was Scaredy Pants, winner of the 10th trial to ge the fourth fastest clocking of :17.558 seconds, a 96 speed index.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to Will Rogers on Saturday, November 9th to vie for the winner's share of a $87,920 purse.
