OPELOUSAS, LA—AUGUST 8, 2020—A daughter of third-crop sire Five Bar Cartel was purchased by Bobby Cox for $85,000 to become the sale topper as the 2020 LQHBA Yearling Sale drew to a close Saturday evening in Opelousas.
Across the two-day sale, LQHBA reported 375 horses sold from the 484 offered for gross receipts of $4,690,100. The average was $12,507 and the median rose 5% to $9,500. The 108 horses that went unsold represented an RNA rate of 23%.
"It is impossible to compare figures with previous years as this was a smaller catalog condensed into a two-day sale," said LQHBA Executive Director Bruce Salard. "Certainly, things were off comparatively, but even with the COVID-19 pandemic and moving the sale location at a late date we had a good crowd both days."
