Three Fastest Prairie Meadows Gold Futurity Qualifiers Come Out of Trail Headed By Cardiac Cowboy

ALTOONA, IA—JUNE 19, 2023—Grade 1 Heritage Place Futurity finalist Cardiac Cowboy dug in gamely to defeat his stablemate Jess A Rednec Cowboy while posting the fastest qualifying time from five trials contested Monday evening for the Prairie Meadows Gold Futurity at Prairie Meadows.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to the Iowa raceway on Saturday, July 8th to vie for the winner's share of a nearly $160,000 purse going 350 yards.

Under the capable hands of jockey Edwin Escobedo, Cardiac Cowboy ran down his rival in :17.514 seconds, equaling a 98 speed index. It was the third win in four starts for the $87,657 earning son of leading first-crop sire Flying Cowboy 123.

Trainer Jason Olmstead conditions the Oklahoma-bred gelding for owner-breeder Jo Rice. Cardiac Cowboy is out of the Carters Cartel mare Southard Cartel.

Easy Jet Stakes (RG3) winner Jess A Rednec Cowboy held on to get the second fastest clocking of :17.519 seconds, also a 98 speed index. Jockey Ramiro Garcia had the riding call aboard the Flying Cowboy 123 gelding for Olmstead.

Owner-breeder Brenda Reiswig bred the $61,952 stakes winner in Oklahoma from the Valiant Hero mare Valiant Red Vixen. Jess A Rednec Cowboy was also fourth in the Remington Park Juvenile last April.

The third fastest qualifier Little Barbie Tales finished third in the same trial, a half-length back, in a time of :17.594 seconds, a 94 speed index. Trainer Stacy Charette-Hill named jockey Cristian Esqueda to ride the Wagon Tales filly for owners Leann Burns and Thomas Lepic.

Hill and Vicki Tebow bred the bay filly in Oklahoma from the Mr Jess Perry mare Little Kool Barbie. She has finished third in both her career starts.
