Dark Nme Completes Probably Best Texas Classic Futurity Field In Recent History

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX–OCTOBER 27, 2023–Two-time Grade 1 winning millionaire Dark Nme posted the fastest qualifying time on Night 2 of the Grade 1 $1.17 million Texas Classic Futurity(G1) at Lone Star Park Friday night.

The five fastest qualifiers from last night, that included the winners of the 2023 All American Futurity(G1), Rainbow QH Futurity(G1) and TQHA Sale Futurity(RG1), will join the five fastest, from tonight's trials in the 400 yard Texas Classic Futurity(G1) finale to be contested Saturday, November 18th. The winner earns a whopping $523,389.

Making her first start since a third-place finish in the $3 million All American Futurity(G1) on Labor Day (her only loss), Dark Nme blew the field away in the second trial tonight.

Under champion jockey Francisco Calderon the bay filly rolled to a 2-1/4 length win and the fastest time of :19.352 seconds, a 105 speed index with a 6 mph tailwind.

Santos Carrizales, Jr. conditions the $65,000 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate for owner TYKHE Racing LLC.  Bred in Oklahoma by L. Hendrix Horses LLC, the daughter of leading sire Hes Relentless has won seven of eight starts including the Rainbow Futurity(G1) and Remington Park Oklahoma-Bred Futurity(RG1).  She is out of the Spit Curl Jess mare Quions.

The leading contender for champion 2-year-old filly honors has banked $1,036,062 in eight starts.

Josefina Guzman's Colleys Cartel finished second to Dark Nme to get the second fastest time of :19.737 seconds, a 94 speed index. Victor Urieta, Jr. had the riding call aboard the Carters Cartel gelding for trainer Juan Diaz, Jr.

Alan and Sharon Colley bred the multiple graded-placed 2-year-old in Texas from the Walk Thru Fire mare A Friend In The Sky. Colleys Cartel has won three of seven starts and earned $246,572 with a second in the TQHA Sale Futurity(RG1) and third in the Sam Houston Futurity(G2).  The $33,000 TQHA Yearling Sale graduate was also a finalist in the Oklahoma Futurity(G2).

The lightly raced Shes A Jet One scored her second consecutive win in trial 6 after breaking her maiden in her last start September 22 at Lone Star Park. Jockey Ali Rivera guided the daughter of champion Ec Jet One to a 1-3/4 length win the secure the third fastest time of :19.741 seconds, a 94 speed index with a 6 mph tailwind.

A Texas homebred for owner-breeder Pete Scarmardo, Shes A Jet One is out of the Tac It Like A Man mare Empty Arms. Leading trainer John Stinebaugh conditions the $19,096 earner.

Js On Fire, a $105,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale graduate, raced to a three-quarter length win in the seventh trial to secure the fourth fastest clocking of :19.815 seconds, a 92 speed index with a 6 mph tailwind.

All American Futurity winning trainer Michael Joiner named jockey Agustin Silva to ride the son of Hes Relentless for owner Joshua Owens.

Bred by Rancho El Cabresto Inc., from the Apollitical Jess mare As And Js, Js On Fire has won three consecutive races including his trial for the All American and Rainbow Futurities at Ruidoso this summer. He has earned $18,200 in four starts.

Grade 1 Ruidoso Futurity finalist Relentless Eagle cleared the field late in the opening trial after getting bumped at the start under jockey Luciano Duenez. The son of multiple stakes sire Hes Relentless recovered nicely to win by half-length while getting the fifth qualifying time of :19.829 seconds, a 92 speed index with a 6 mph tailwind.

Trainer Marc Junger saddled the $100,000 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate for owner Lance Bland. George P. Mitchell II bred the two-time winning earner of $67,760 in Oklahoma from the Volcom mare Volcoms Delight.
