Three Six-Figure Day 1 Sale Toppers Fuel Gains In Gross and Average on Day 1 of TQHA Yearling Sale

SAN ANTONIO, TX–JULY 26, 2024–Three six-figure yearlings helped fuel gains in both gross and average on the first of two days of sales for the annual TQHA Yearling Sale in San Antonio, Texas.

TQHA Yearling Sale reported gross receipts on day 1 of $2,959,400 for 134 heads sold, an 11% increase over the same day last year when 138 heads brought $2,660,100. The average was up significantly for day 1 this year, rising 15% to $22,085, compared to $19,276 last year. Today's median opener fell from $14,500 on opening day last year to $14,000.

A pair of Tempting Dash yearlings tied for the opening day sale-topper, bringing identical bids of $120,000 each.

Tungsten Racing Partnership paid $120,000 for Hip 84, Harley Qynn, a Tempting Dash half-sister to stakes-placed Famous Coronas and Return My Corona. AA Farms LLC consigned the filly out of Sippn Secret Coronas, a half-sister, to champion Hez Our Secret.

Michael Valenzuela paid $120,000 for Hip 88, Br Famous Dash, a Tempting Dash colt out of Famous Eagle by One Famous Eagle. Granada Farms, Agent for Bridle Ridge, consigned the yearling, whose second dam is the AQHA Dam of Distinction My Dashing Lady by Dash For Cash. This is the family of champions Noconi and Brenda Beautiful.

Valenzuela also purchased Friday's third-high seller, Hip 111 Candy Baby, a Jess Good Candy filly consigned by Granada Farms, Agent for Tyler & Naia Graham. The bay filly is out of the Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare Paradice City, a half-sister to champion and leading sire Kiss My Hocks.

Michael Valenzuela was the leading buyer on the opening day, with two purchases for $230,000. Tungsten Racing Partnership had the one for $120,000, and Carlos Ponce paid $106,000 for two head.

Granada Farms, Agent was the leading consignor and/or agent on day 1 with eight head grossing $235,700. Granada Farms, Agent for Tyler & Naia Graham, sold three head for $200,000, and Bobby D. Cox had four yearlings gross $185,000.

FDD Dynasty was the opening day leading sale sire (by average with two or more sold), with three yearlings averaging $52,000. Tempting Dash had 12 for $51,583, and Kiss My Hocks sold six for a $47,833 average.

All yearlings going through the sale ring will be eligible for the 2025 $200,000 Added TQHA Sale Futurity [RG1].
