SELMA, TX–AUGUST 5, 2026–A big weekend of racing is in store for Retama Park, Aug. 6-8, beginning Thursday with the $61,972 Colors of the Alamo Paint & Appaloosa Futurity-G3 trials and continuing Friday and Saturday with trials for the $230,000 TQHA Sires' Cup Futurity-RG2 and the $100,000 TQHA Sires' Cup Derby.

Thursday's nine-race program opens with two trials for the Colors of the Alamo Paint & Appaloosa Futurity-G3.

Friday's card features 79 two-year-olds competing in eight 350-yard trials for the TQHA Sires' Cup Futurity-RG2, while Saturday's 11-race program includes three derby trials with 26 three-year-olds seeking a spot in the TQHA Sires' Cup Derby-RG3.

The futurity and derby are restricted to foals sired by stallions that participated in the TQHA Stallion Auction during the applicable breeding season, making the series one of the premier showcases for Texas stallions each year.

"These two races have continued to grow over the past several years, and the generous support of stallion owners and breeding farms has played a major role in that success," said TQHA Director of Racing Scott Sherwood. "Their continued participation in the TQHA Stallion Auction, which directly supports these races, has allowed the program to reach new heights. In 2026, we will pay a record $38,380 in stallion awards for the two TQHA Sires' Cup races. It's our way of giving back to the breeders and stallion owners who have invested in and supported this race series through their generous auction donations."

$230,000 TQHA SIRES' CUP FUTURITY-RG2 TRIALS
Ruse Man Crystal, the 3-1 morning-line favorite in the seventh trial, enters as one of the horses to beat after a strong spring campaign at Remington Park. Racing for K K Horse Racing, the filly won her Oklahoma Futurity-G2 trial before overcoming a troubled start to finish third in the final, beaten three-quarters of a length. She enters the trials with earnings of $53,818. The Louisiana-bred daughter of KJ Mucho Macho Man will break from post 10 under Nestor Duran for trainer Jose A. Garcia.

Other leading contenders include Let It B Cowgirl in the opening trial and Mister Sinatra in race five.

Let It B Cowgirl qualified to the Sam Houston Futurity-G2 with a trial victory before returning for owner Victor Garcia and trainer Katie Carlos. The daughter of Flying Cowboy 123 breaks from the rail under Claudio Aguilar.

Mister Sinatra has compiled two wins and a runner-up finish in the Laico Bird Stakes-G3 while never finishing worse than third in four starts. Owned by Jamco Dreams, LLC, the Oklahoma-bred son of Dulce Sin Tacha has earned $32,655 and will be ridden by Ali Rivera for trainer Zack Stinebaugh.

$100,000 TQHA SIRES' CUP DERBY-RG3 TRIALS
The third and final derby trial shapes up as the marquee matchup, featuring accomplished fillies Shes Ec to Tempt and Di Kvn Waven.

Shes Ec to Tempt brings a seven-race winning streak into the trials for K K Horse Racing following victories in the GCFA Dutchman Stakes and the Big Easy Futurity. The Texas-bred daughter of Tempting Dash has earned $156,623 from eight starts and will be ridden by Victor M. Urieta, Jr. for trainer Jose A. Garcia.

Di Kvn Waven enters with earnings of $315,337 after victories in the Louisiana Downs Futurity-G2 and last year's TQHA Sires' Cup Futurity-RG2. Owned by Refugio Alvarado, the daughter of Kvn Corona was runner-up in the Selma Stakes in her latest start and will be ridden by Oliver E. Martinez for trainer Jose Ivan Martinez.

Another major contender is Karma Cha Ching, who heads the second trial after winning three consecutive races, including the Sam Houston Oaks and La Villita Stakes. Sarah Huskey's Texas homebred has won four of 11 starts and earned $127,302 for trainer Esteban Rubio. The daughter of Pa Cha Ching will be ridden by Nestor Duran.

$61,972 COLORS OF THE ALAMO PAINT & APPALOOSA FUTURITY-G3 TRIALS
Jvm Hot Victoria heads Thursday's opening trial as the 2-1 morning-line favorite after capturing the TPHBA Paint Horse Juvenile Stakes in her latest start. Owned and bred by Juan Luis Leon, the daughter of Chilitos has won three of five starts while earning $27,646. Wendy Alejandra Garcia trains the Texas-bred filly, who will be ridden by Rosendo E. Pina Garcia.

The second trial matches Grade 2 winner Tc Abanero against stakes-placed Miss Chilitos. Miss Chilitos, the 5-2 morning-line favorite, qualified to the TQHA Sale Futurity-G1 against Quarter Horses before finishing third in the Colors of Houston Futurity-G2 after posting the fastest qualifying time. The daughter of Chilitos has earned $44,438 for owner Edgar Rivera Hernandez and trainer Jose Ivan Martinez.

Tc Abanero won the Colors of Houston Futurity-G2 earlier this season before a solid effort against Quarter Horses in his latest start. Owned by Chile Piquin Partnership, the gelding has earned $32,496 and will be ridden by Nestor Duran for trainer Zackery N. Rios.

FAMILY FUN NIGHT
Saturday is Family Fun Night at Retama Park, featuring free face painting, bounce houses, a petting zoo, pony rides, and more.

The afternoon begins with the LOPE (LoneStar Outreach to Place Ex-Racers) Learning Lab at 3 p.m. In partnership with Retama Park, the free educational program offers behind-the-scenes tours of the racetrack and race barn, opportunities to meet veterinarians, jockeys, trainers, and other racing professionals, and interactive equine science and veterinary demonstrations featuring the track's pony horses.

Following the Learning Lab, guests can enjoy live Quarter Horse racing, with participating youth helping present the winner's trophy after the first race.

CLOSING WEEKEND
Closing weekend on Aug. 22 will feature the finals of the Colors of the Alamo Paint & Appaloosa Futurity, the TQHA Sires' Cup Futurity-RG2, and the TQHA Sires' Cup Derby, as well as the Colors of the Wind Paint and Appaloosa Maturity and the AQHA Racing Championship Challenge-G3.

Registration for the popular Retama Park Weenie Dog Races closes Aug. 14. The fan-favorite event will be held during the Aug. 22 finals program, giving participants the opportunity to race in front of one of the meet's largest crowds.

The annual competition awards cash prizes to the top three finishers. The entry fee is $25 per dog, and space is limited. Owners can register through the "Register Here" link on the Retama Park website or event page.
