Making his third career start, Mad About The Moon finished second to Bodacious Eagle in the seventh heat on the second day of the All American trials. Mad About The Moon finished fourth in his first race, a May 30 trial to the Mountain Top Futurity (RG3), and then returned to win against maiden company on July 21.
The multiple track-record-setting First Moonflash ($969,828) was the champion aged stallion in 2009, when he set the :20.274 quarter-mile world record in the Bank Of America New Mexico Championship Challenge (G1) at Sunland Park and also won his second consecutive running of The Championship At Sunland Park (G1). The now 9-year-old son of champion First To Flash was the leading freshman sire last year, when he was represented at stud by the earners of $2,243,679, including champion and All American Futurity (G1) winner Handsome Jack Flash ($1,484,971). Now, from 109 starters in two crops raced, First Moonflash has sired six other stakes winners and the earners of more than $2.89 million.
Mad About The Moon is one of three winners and the earners of more than $187,000 from seven starters out of the winning I Be Streakin mare Streaking Power ($12,437). Mad About The Moon is a half-brother to the stakes-placed Southern Cartel gelding Cartel Power ($155,676), who finished third in Rabbit Revival’s New Mexico Classic Futurity (RG1). Streaking Power is one of two stakes winners, six other winners and the earners of more than $926,000 from 12 starters out of the winning Pyromaniac mare Pyro Power, dam of Ongoing Ta Fame ($644,746, by Dash Ta Fame) and I Be Dreamin ($79,532, by I Be Streakin).
