TOPEKA, KS–OCTOBER 17, 2024–The Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission is currently accepting applications to enroll mares and stallions into the Kansas Breeders Development Fund (KBDF).
This upstart program is projected to offer several million dollars annually to mare owners who have their mares certified into the Kansas program before foaling. Foals born in Kansas from these mares will have the opportunity to run for a projected $3 million purse supplement fund in 2026 and perhaps more in the following years.

LEXINGTON, KY–OCTOBER 17, 2024–Jockeys and Jeans, an all-volunteer group that has raised $3.4 million for the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund, has named Mike Joyce its 2024 Person of Year.
He will accept the award and speak about the need to aid disabled former jockeys during Jockeys and Jeans' 10th annual event at Gulfstream Park on Saturday, January 11.

Oklahoma Quarter Horse Racing Association and Will Rogers Downs Announce $1,500 Increase to Overnigh
CLAREMORE, OK–OCTOBER 16, 2024–The Oklahoma Quarter Horse Racing Association (OQHRA) and Will Rogers Downs (WRD) are pleased to announce a $1,500 increase to all overnight purses, beginning with the races on October 20th, for the remainder of the 2024 WRD Fall Meet.
This does not include trials or stakes races.
This increase comes as a response to the challenges faced following the tornado that left the barn area at half capacity during ongoing repairs, creating significant obstacles for horsemen participating in the meet.

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX–OCTOBER 15, 2024–As a reminder, on Thursday, October 17, Lone Star Park will be taking entries for both Thursday, October 24, and Friday, October 25 race days.
They are doing this in case the Texas Classic Futurity trials require two days of trials. Current numbers indicate they should all be able to be run on Friday. However, they will only be split into two days if they receive over 140 entries.

LOS ALAMITOS, CA–OCTOBER 14, 2024–The Halloween Carnival at Los Alamitos Race Course returns with a fun-filled evening of carnival games for the entire family on Saturday, October 19.
The track's popular costume contest will be one of the highlights of the night with seven different age categories offering cash prizes throughout the night. The Carnival will begin at approximately 6 p.m. Admission is only $3 and kids 17 and under are admitted FREE. Los Alamitos also features free general parking. AMARILLO, TX–OCTOBER 13, 2024–Following recent Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA) positives found in racing American Quarter Horses, Oklahoma, Colorado, New Mexico and Texas have announced updated requirements.
The Oklahoma Quarter Horse Racing Association announced that beginning October 13, Will Rogers Downs will require a negative Coggins test dated within 60 days of arrival for any horse arriving from out of state.

Tanner has been with the track for nearly three years and previously served as the Racing Ambassador. She brings years of experience and a passion for the racing industry to her new role.

The 47th annual Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale will held January 16th - 18th in Oklahoma City. Consignment Fee: $650 if entry is received by October 22, 2024 or $750 if entry is received after October 22, 2024 or later.

HOUSTON, TX–OCTOBER 10, 2024–Nomination forms for the 2025 Grade 2 Sam Houston Futurity and the 2025 Grade 3 Sam Houston Derby are now available.
The $150,000-added Sam Houston Futurity(G2) trials are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, May 23-24, at a distance of 350 yards. The final The final will be contested on Saturday, June 14.

BOSSIER CITY, LA–OCTOBER 8, 2024–Louisiana Downs announces the retirement of Director of Racing and Racing Secretary Matt Crawford, following a distinguished career in horse racing. Crawford, 67, will continue to assist the racing office through Book 1 of the Quarter Horse Meet, which begins on January 9, 2025.
A native of Texas, Crawford’s career in horseracing began as an assistant trainer, a role that helped him develop a deep understanding of the sport. His connection with Louisiana Downs dates back to 1980, when one of his trainees, Big Sturgeon, was named the 1987 Horse of the Meet—a significant milestone in his early career.

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX–OCTOBER 9, 2024—Due to the recent positives for Equine Infectious Anemia within the quarter horse racing community, Coggins tests are now required to be dated within 60 days of arrival for the remainder of the 2024 race meet.
Horsemen will have until October 21 before this will be enforced. This will allow time, if necessary, for new Coggins to be drawn, sent to the lab, and the results to be received.
