Six-figure Yearlings Push Gross, Median Up First Night of Ruidoso Select Sale - UPDATED 08/30/2025

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM–AUGUST 29, 2025–Thirty-eight six-figure yearlings in the opening session, led by $390,000 QS Shes A Hottie, pushed gross receipts and median average above last year’s opening night.

All American Ruidoso Horse Sales, LLC reported gross receipts of $11,333,400 for 178 yearlings sold on the opening night of the 2025 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, a slight increase over $11,134,000 in 2024 for 158 head.  

The average fell to $64,014, compared to $70,368 in last year’s opening session; however, the median price rose to $47,000, compared to $42,000 in 2024.

Jimmy Barton, Lance Bland, Scott Bryant, and Gary Cain paid $390,000 for Friday’s high-seller, Hip 136 Qs Shes A Hottie. Fulton Quien Sabe Ranches LP consigned the daughter of five-time world champion sire FDD Dynasty from the first foal crop of All American Futurity (G1) finalist Caliente Caramedo by Jess Good Candy, a half-sister to champion Hotstepper and Ruidoso Derby(G1) winner Hotsempting.

Lazy E Ranch LLC, Agent for The Mixer Ranch, consigned the second high-seller, Hip 17 A Tres Of Politics, by leading sire Apollitical Jess, from the stakes-winning and multiple graded stakes producing Tres Seis mare A Tres Of Paint. Jimmy Harrel and Ryan Terry paid $340,000 for the half-brother to Grade 1 winner A Tres Of Eagle and full brother to G1-placed Ajs Tres Of Paint.

Sammy Valerinao paid $325,000 for the third high-seller, Hip 40 Thewayjesswantstoo, a half-brother to champion A Revenant. Marty Powers, Agent for Darling Farms & Dr. Richard Beck consigned the Apollitical Jess colt out of Thewayyouwantmetoo by Mr Eye Opener.

West Texas Racing Partners LLC was the opening session leading buyer with four head for $462,000. Norman Allen had three purchases totaling $445,000, and Jimmy Barton, Lance Bland, Scott Bryant, and Gary Cain had one for $390,000.

Marty Powers, Agent, was the leading consignor or agent on day 1 with 10 head for gross receipts of $882,000. Fulton Quein Sabe Ranches, LP, sold four for $637,000, and Burns Ranch, Agent, had nine head gross $593,000.

Corona Cartel was the opening session leading sire (by average, 2 or more sold), with three head averaging $135,000. Apollitical Jess had 21 yearlings average $119,810 and Kvn Corona had two yearling average $100,000.

Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale Online Bidding

DVAuction will offer online bidding for the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale. Prospective buyers who want to bid online for the upcoming sale must do two things:

  1. Create an Account
  2. Complete and email an Online Bidder Application

To create an account, go to www.dvauction.com and click the "Create New Account" Tab. Follow all the instructions, complete the online form, and verify your email. Call DVAuctions at (402) 316-5460 for online registration questions.

On the day of the sale, go to www.dvauction.com and log in with your username/email and password in the top left-hand corner. Then scroll to the green "view" tab that says Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale. This will take you to the sale; follow the instructions for bidding.

Online bidding will be available at the start of the sale, which begins promptly at 3:00 (MDT).
