Flashing Lights, High Flying Storm Dead-Heat in Golden Spike Derby Final at Weber Downs
The $24,038 Golden Spike Derby, at Weber Downs, ended in a dead-heat today between Flashing Lights (#6) and High Flying Storm (#2).

OGDEN, UT—MAY 30, 2026—Flashing Lights and High Flying Storm battled stride for stride through the final yards and could not be separated at the wire, resulting in a dead heat for victory in Saturday's $24,038 Golden Spike Derby Finals for 3-year-olds at Weber Downs.

Both fillies were credited with the win after covering 350 yards in 17.694 seconds over a wet-fast racing surface and earning a 94 speed index.

Flashing Lights, a sorrel filly by multiple stakes sire The Marfa Lights out of Cara Cara by Teller Cartel, races for owner-trainer Giovanni Ortiz. Bred in Louisiana by Paris Wixon, the filly was ridden by Minor Arana. Flashing Lights earned $7,211 for her share of the victory.

High Flying Storm, a bay filly by multiple stakes sire Eagles Fly Higher out of Storm's Promise (TB) by Seattle Fitz (ARG) (TB), races for Lucky T Stables, LLC and is conditioned by Clay Teeter. Bred in Oklahoma by Darling Farms, she was piloted by Jesus Virgen. High Flying Storm also received $7,211 for the dead-heat victory. The filly was a $11,000 purchase at the 2024 Heritage Place Yearling Sale.

Just a head behind the winning pair was Innocent Down Perry, who completed the blanket finish in third. The brown filly by second-crop sire Hes Innocent out of Corona Down Perry by Coronas Leaving You is owned by Dewey Kendrick III, trained by Joe Davis, and was ridden by Ruben Castro. Grant Farms LLC bred the Louisiana-bred runner, who earned $3,005. Innocent Down Perry was a $17,000 purchase at the 2024 Heritage Place Yearling Sale.

Heavenly Storm finished fourth, followed by the dead-heating pair of Vr New Dream and Hez Gifted in fifth. Pearl Lg finished seventh, and Our Error completed the order of finish in eighth.

The Golden Spike Derby Finals produced one of the closest finishes of the Weber Downs meet, with the top four runners separated by only a neck at the finish line.
