MEXICO CITY, MX–APRIL 5, 2026–A familiar rivalry took center stage Sunday night at the Hipódromo de las Américas, where CCB Rich Ranch Boy turned the tables on Talk Of The Bar in the opening leg of the 2026 Mexican Quarter Horse Triple Crown.
The $22,000 Easily A Possum Classic at 350 yards marked the first chapter in what is shaping up to be a compelling series between the two standouts, with CCB Rich Ranch Boy delivering an impressive effort to hand his familiar foe, Talk Of The Bar, his first career defeat.
Under Miguel Ángel Rodríguez, CCB Rich Ranch Boy broke first and never looked back, leading gate to wire while stopping the clock in :17.42. He drew clear at the wire to win by 1 1/4 lengths, earning $11,000 while posting a 91 speed index.
Trained by Jorge Alberto Ruiz Peribán for Cuadra Cartas Blancas, the colt showed determination through the lane to secure his first career stakes victory. He has now lit the board in all six starts, compiling four wins and earnings of $26,000.
His résumé includes a third-place effort in last year’s Champion of Champions Juvenile along with honors as the American Champion Two-Year-Old Colt.
Bred in the United States by Double Bar S Ranch, CCB Rich Ranch Boy was a $30,000 graduate of the 2024 Heritage Place Yearling Sale. Bred by Double Bar S Ranch, the son of Corona Cartel is out of Budder Than Ever by Strawflyin Buds.
Talk Of The Bar, sent off as the favorite for Cuadra CRT, was undefeated coming into the race and seeking his third consecutive stakes victory. The gelding settled for second but was game throughout after pressing the pace.
The son of This Is An Eagle has now earned $38,000 from four starts. His prior victories include the Champion of Champions Juvenile, where he defeated CCB Rich Ranch Boy, and the Las Americas Futurity.
He was bred in the United States by Mary G. Thompson out of Five Bar Toast by Five Bar Cartel. A $9,000 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate, he is trained by Octavio Ivan Becerra Aguila and was ridden by Huberclein Gomez.
Inseperable Teller finished third under Angel Santillan, continuing her consistent form with another in-the-money effort for trainer Juan Jose Razo and owner Ranch El Gigante. She has hit the board in all four starts with a record of 1-1-2 and earnings of $6,000. Bred in the United States by Ruse Ranch LLC, she is by Inseperable and out of Teller N Telleragain by Corona Cartel.
Completing the order of finish were Dark Water Bay in fourth, Phillybuster in fifth, One Famous Temptation in sixth and Blue On The Run in seventh.
The rivalry now moves to the second leg, the Mexican Quarter Horse Association Classic at 400 yards on May 10, with the series concluding July 19 in the Las Americas Derby.
